Project Funding: The State Commission of the Lithuanian Language

Project Manager: Assoc. Prof. Vilma Zubaitienė

Project Duration: February 2017 – February 2020

The aim of this project is to research the usage of academic phrases in student writing in six main study areas of the first study cycle. In order to achieve the aim, a corpus of student writings has been created. Scientific papers, term or course papers and bachelor’s theses written in Lithuanian higher education institutions in 2010-2016 will be explored. The project will focus on identification of the most frequently used phrases and their types as well as analysis of the variety of phrases used, variations of phrase forms and range of types, their frequency in texts of different subject areas and in separate parts of texts. On the basis of the corpus material and research findings, an interactive open access phrase bank of academic language (recurrent word combinations and longer phrases) will be developed. The compendium will serve as a useful tool to assist students of various study cycles and study programs in writing in Lithuanian.

More information on the project will be provided by the project manager Assoc. Prof. Vilma Zubaitienė.
